Crafting Strong Narratives for Orders for Protection

This session will examine how advocates can guide petitioners in effectively communicating their experiences of abuse to create a clear, compelling, and legally relevant narrative for their Order of Protection. We’ll cover strategies for gathering a detailed and thorough history of abuse while maintaining a trauma-informed approach. We will also focus on how to avoid common mistakes, such as using vague language, adding unnecessary and distracting context, and including irrelevant examples, all of which can weaken a petition.
